The Chilled Lemons Jazz Quartet fit perfectly into the background of any event or venue providing wonderful live jazz that is complimentary not intrusive. However, they are also quite happy to take centre stage and perform for dancing and those party times!
The Chilled Lemons Jazz Quartet consists of; Tenor Saxophone, piano, bass and drums. The Quartet can easily set up quickly, and be flexible enough to move around venues during different stages of your event if required. The Quartet can perform both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting!).
Phil is available to guest as a soloist with rhythm sections, combos or big bands. Phil also offers guest conducting of ensembles.
Both of these can be as part of a workshop/masterclass session and performance.
Phil's duo with Matt McGrory on guitar was one of the first musical projects Phil put together over twenty years ago. Ideal for more intimate settings, such as restaurants and drinks receptions Phil (Saxophone & Clarinet) and Matt perform a programme of music from the great American songbook, tunes that are timeless and well known, including compositions from Ellington, Gershwin and Porter all performed in a sophisticated and swinging style.
The modern string quartet! A quartet consisting of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones. This is a very versatile group playing various repertoire including light classical music, show tunes, music from stage and screen, and even jazz, funk and reggae!
The octet perform the 'West Coast Jazz' classics of 1950's America, happy, melodic, relaxed and grooving music that reflects this period of swinging jazz. The 'little big band' style of arranging was very popular during the time and allowed for more intricate writing along with improvisational characteristics of the smaller jazz ensembles.

Phil Shotton recreates the music of the Miles Davis Nonet recording 'Birth of the Cool'. Although this Nonet only performed live a handful of times and ceased to exist by 1950, it is widely regarded as one of the most important ensembles in the history of jazz and has heavily influenced both jazz musicians and future jazz composers and arrangers.
The Birth Of The Cool Band play music edited from the original manuscript, featuring arrangements by the likes of Gil Evans, Bud Powell and Gerry Mulligan, endeavouring to recreate this seminal album with care, respect and the correct interpretation.

The Swingshift Big Band swung into life in 2000, quickly gaining an excellent reputation for being a versatile, hard-working, dedicated, well-rehearsed and fun band!
Swingshift is the resident big band for the Southport Melodic Jazz Club and as such regularly performs at the Club with many national and international Jazz stars.
Swingshift is held in high regard among many of the best jazz performers on the UK scene today. A strong association with SMJC and Wigan Jazz Club has allowed Swingshift to perform in major national and international Jazz festivals, perform specially commissioned compositions, tour and take part in various exciting jazz projects and recreations of rare and lesser heard repertoire.

The Maghull Wind Orchestra is a community based symphonic wind orchestra boasting over one hundred members. The membership is drawn from the surrounding area from a broad range of backgrounds; ranging from full-time students, to music teachers, people working in other professions and those in retirement. The aim of Maghull Wind Orchestra is to provide a high quality musical experience for all woodwind, brass and percussion musicians, regardless of age or ability with professional level directorship and without audition or fee.
Maghull Wind Orchestra stages regular public performances throughout the year and has performed at some very high profile events and venues from its year of formation in 1978. MWO perform a variety of Wind Orchestra works, ranging from classical and modern wind orchestra music to traditional military band repertoire and symphonic film scores, and pride themselves on their versatility and audience engaging programmes. Under the professional and enthusiastic direction of Phil Shotton, Maghull Wind Orchestra has established itself as an important and popular part of music in the North West.
Many of these ensembles are the ideal backdrop to your wedding drinks reception. Live music, with no backing tracks performed by top class musicians will compliment your special day perfectly.
The Ensembles usually perform two 45 minute sets or one 90 minute set. However, performance times can be completely tailored to your event and to suit you.
The Ensembles can perform at both the drinks reception and during or after the wedding breakfast or any combination of suitable performance times during the day. It is also possible for us to perform for your first dance, or even during the ceremony such as during the signing of the register.
