Phil is a highly experienced, versatile conductor and musical director of many different ensembles. He has conducted performances at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, and Liverpool's Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals.

Phil has a wealth of experience in conducting all kinds of educational ensembles in many different settings, from primary school bands and young ensembles to senior youth ensembles, jazz groups, wind orchestras and large community groups. As a conductor of such groups Phil has participated in many different festivals and competitions. Through his educational work Phil has worked with composers on newly commissioned works and at several workshops, often directing full and sectional rehearsals. Phil has a lively, engaging and encouraging rehearsal style, allowing all musicians to feel valued and confident in their own performance.

Phil regularly leads conducting workshops with whole bands and is available as a guest conductor/clinician, mainly working with wind orchestras and big bands. Phil also offers one to one conducting lessons and consultations.

In February 2019 Phil will be a tutor for the Woodwind Orchestra Play Day, in Leeds. The Play Day is an educational day open to all orchestral woodwind instruments (including saxophone).
